I just heard on the news that 20,000 people (PhDs, PhD students and “normal” individuals ;-)) have signed an open letter to Angela Merkel in which her management regarding the plagiarism of Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is strongly criticised. I was shocked to learn additional detail about how our Minister of Defense’s doctoral thesis was generated. I hope that this open letter (rather than the downplaying remarks of the government) will help the public to fully appreciate the severity of the plagiarism committed.
